Air freight in Sydney stops working the way it has for thirty years

From 1 November 2026, the overnight freight flights currently permitted at Kingsford Smith cease and move to Western Sydney International, which runs curfew-free. Its cargo precinct opened for freight on 26 July 2026 with capacity for at least 220,000 tonnes a year.

If any part of your inbound moves by air, your provider’s address stops being a detail. A warehouse in the eastern suburbs was positioned for an airport that will no longer be handling your overnight freight. Ours is sixteen kilometres from the one that will.

IFC runs freight forwarding, customs clearance and 3PL warehousing as one operation. A shipment landing overnight at Western Sydney can be cleared by our brokers, moved sixteen kilometres, and booked into the warehouse management system before your team starts work, without you managing a handoff between three providers who each blame the other two.

Both ports, one operation

Sea freight has not moved. Port Botany is roughly forty-three kilometres away with M7 and M5 access, so containers reach Leppington without crossing the CBD. What has changed is that the site now sits between the container port and the freight airport rather than next to one and far from the other.
