Eighty-seven per cent of the import containers landing at the Port of Melbourne travel less than fifty kilometres to their destination. Inside that fifty kilometres, every extra kilometre is a cost you have already committed to before the ship berths. Altona is about thirteen kilometres from the port, close enough that a truck can turn more than once in a shift, and since the West Gate Tunnel opened in 2025 high-productivity freight vehicles run direct to Swanson Dock.

If you are choosing a 3PL provider on rate card alone, this is the line item that is not on the rate card.
