Employee Spotlight Interview – Harry
Harry Deng - Senior Application Developer
Tell us about your role with IFC and how long you have been with the business.
I’ve been working in IFC as a Senior Application Developer for over four years. My job is to develop applications/integrations and perform system enhancement and maintenance.
What do you enjoy most about working at IFC?
Working in Cloud Logistic Solutions (the technology department of IFC), we constantly push ourselves to use the most cutting-edge technologies. The system environment changes rapidly along with so many new challenges, but we enjoyed it by working as a team. Also, I work in a multicultural company, where people are nice and friendly, and we always help each other and learn from each organisation’s members.
What drew you to work in the supply chain industry?
I am still learning what a supply chain is; I enjoy that there is always something new to learn. It can be addictive when I feel the complexity of the process has been automated by using the power of technology – ‘problem solved!’ – that is what we would like to hear.
Tell us a little about your background and experience.
I came to Australia and finished my university degree in 2019. Since then, I have started working in IFC as a junior developer. The programming languages/frameworks I am using are Typescript, Java, NodeJS, and React.
In your experience working in the industry, what are the biggest challenges and opportunities you’ve encountered so far?
Everyone knows IT changes fast. A developer only has one stomach, but the digesting process of new knowledge is unstoppable. We need to keep everything up to date and apply the latest techs to cope with the customer’s requirements. We are currently working on a brand-new game-change system. It is exciting, and there are loads of opportunities I can see in the near future.
How do you think IFC differentiates from competitors?
I will quote the banner from Victoria Tourism – ‘Every bit is different’.
As a result, it is a unique company that can make so many achievements. I believe one of the reasons is ‘Don’t just talk about it; let’s make it happen’.
For aspiring professionals interested in a career in the supply chain industry, what advice would you give them to kickstart their journey?
Do not be afraid to make mistakes; remember, you are not alone if you work as a team.
What hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
Tennis and Camping.
Describe your life’s motto in a few words!
Be nice to the world around you, and the world around you will be nice to you.
