Employee Spotlight Interview – Penny
Penny Oliver - HR Executive
Tell us about your role with IFC and how long you have been with the business.
My Role as HR Executive is relatively new to me, and I am moving into the role just this year. I have been with the company for 20 years, moving through all different departments of the Global and Warehouse business over the years. This even included a few years based offsite, looking after our client’s needs from their place of work.
What do you enjoy most about working at IFC?
I enjoy working at IFC as I’ve always had room to move, grow and learn new things. There has always been a new, exciting challenge ahead. The staff here are excellent to work with & management is always approachable and accommodating whatever the need.
What drew you to work in the supply chain industry?
I stumbled across the supply chain industry. After finishing year 12, I looked for a job, and a traineeship landed me at IFC. Lucky for me, who knew I would still be here today.
Tell us a little about your background and experience.
I had yet to gain experience when I started at IFC straight out of school. I’ve learnt everything I know here.
In your experience working in the industry, what are the biggest challenges and opportunities you’ve encountered so far?
The opportunities have been endless in my personal experience. There’s room to move throughout because so many different areas and departments make up the supply chain industry. The challenge is adapting to all the changes along the way. Improving yourself, efficiency and moving along with the times.
How do you think IFC differentiates from competitors?
IFC has been under the same management for over 30 years; it uniquely unites people. It’s been great working alongside many people who have been with the company for as long as I have.
For aspiring professionals interested in a career in the supply chain industry, what advice would you give them to kickstart their journey?
Take me as an example. I started as a trainee. If you’re willing to learn and improve, there is always room to grow.
What hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
Most of my free time these days is spent running my kids around to all the different sports they do. I love watching the multiple games of Basketball and Netball on the weekends. You might find me at the gym or enjoying a wine with friends.
Describe your life’s motto in a few words!
You only live once.
