Employee Spotlight Interview – Muthita

Tell us about your role with IFC and how long you have been with the business.
Handling all aspects of airfreight/export sea freight operations for major clients, using Cargowise One.  I’ve been with IFC Global Logistics for over 4 years now.

What do you enjoy most about working at IFC?
Being able to work with professional and experienced people within the company. I enjoy working in both the airfreight and sea freight departments.

What drew you to work in the supply chain industry?
Supply chain and logistics is a growing industry, leading to job opportunities in the future.

Tell us a little about your background and experience.
I came to Australia at the age of 13 and couldn’t speak any English. I went to school until year 12 and then went to university to study Bachelor of Business, majoring in hospitality/international trade. I started working at IFC at an entry-level and have learned a lot over the last 4 years.

In your experience working in the industry, what are the biggest challenges and opportunities you’ve come across so far?
Fairly new in the industry back in 2020, it was very challenging working remotely from home while cross-training. Logistics faced delays and space issues, which affected the whole industry. I have opportunities to work with airlines, shipping lines and transport companies.

How do you think IFC differentiates from competitors?
IFC work closely as a team to meet customer satisfaction. We provide options for customers to ship cargo via airfreight and sea freight in a timely manner.

For aspiring professionals interested in a career in the supply chain industry, what advice would you give them to kickstart their journey?
Be prepared for challenges and changes within the industry. Keep turning up and be open-minded, as every job opportunity will lead you somewhere.

What are your hobbies or favourite interests that you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
I like to go for long walks during the week and on the weekends. Also, I like to watch movies, hang out with friends and cook sometimes.
