Employee Spotlight Interview – Karly
Karly Matthews - Customer Success Manager
Tell us about your role with IFC and how long you have been with the business.
I have been with IFC for 21 years this year and have recently returned from maternity leave. I have had a variety of roles within the company as Customer Service Manager and Continuous Improvement Manager. I have returned as the Customer Success Manager, actively engaging with our customers, understanding their needs, and collaborating along with leading a team of experienced Customer Relationship and Account Managers, ensuring excellent customer service.
What do you enjoy most about working at IFC?
The chance to work for a company that lets you evolve, learn new skills, and grow along with an excellent team that has fantastic knowledge of the industry.
What drew you to work in the supply chain industry?
When I left high school, I was keenly interested in international business and hoped this would lead to travel. I started as a junior clerk with no experience, and all my knowledge has come from being in the supply chain industry since then, from all the different experiences I have had.
Tell us a little about your background and experience.
I started in high school as a junior clerk in an import/export textile agency, moving to a co-loader in customer service only a short time after moving into freight forwarding. I was located at both Melbourne & Perth branches and have been with IFC since then. Most of my background has been in a variety of operations and customer service roles, whether as a team member, leader, supervisor or manager; my experience comes from being very hands-on with all tasks and projects offered to me, and I have learnt many skills to help me personally with my daily workload.
In your experience working in the industry, what are the biggest challenges and opportunities you’ve encountered so far?
There are always opportunities for self-improvement. There are many different types of areas within the supply chain industry. Challenge your ability to make changes as the industry is always changing and evolving.
How do you think IFC differentiates from competitors?
IFC is changing and adapting, always continuing to improve as a business overall. We have a great in-house multi-award-winning software division, Cloud Logistics Solutions, which is leading the way in offering solutions and continually investing in research and development for all users.
For aspiring professionals interested in a career in the supply chain industry, what advice would you give them to kickstart their journey?
Say yes to all offers. This is the biggest learning that you can get from the people around you in the supply chain industry. I have many great friends who are always willing to take a phone call to assist in any knowledge they have to share with me.
What are your hobbies or favourite interests that you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
I am very busy during my free time with my 4 young kids; I like to attend courses to learn new skills and strategies for both parenting and work-related tasks, and I love a nice, quiet place with a good book to read anywhere near water with my young family.
Describe your life’s motto in a few words!
Never be afraid to try new things. I don’t like to have any what-ifs in life.
