Employee Spotlight Interview – Daniel

Daniel Webb - Sydney Office Manager & Licenced Customs Broker

Tell us about your role with IFC and how long you have been with the business.
My role with IFC is Sydney Office Manger & Licenced Customs Broker for the Global Forwarding division.

What do you enjoy most about working at IFC?
You get the feeling of working for a family business along with the ability & technology to beat multi nationals.

What drew you to work in the supply chain industry?
I was working as an apprentice panel beater and one day had to return a car to Customs House, whilst there I noticed a job board with a company advertising for a house clerk. Having no idea what that even was or that freight forwarders even existed I decided to give them a call, I attended an interview & was offered the job on the spot and the rest as they say is history!

Tell us a little about your background and experience.
In total I have now been in the Freight forwarding industry for 25+ years, 20 of those years as a licensed Customs Broker & 15 years in various management roles.

In your experience working in the industry, what are the biggest challenges and opportunities you’ve come across so far?
For me personally the biggest challenge was the disruptions Covid placed on the industry, but the opportunities have far outweighed that. My roles have enabled me to travel overseas for meetings, oversee projects, business transformations & then at the end of the day sit back & know that you have made a difference.

How do you think IFC differentiates from competitors?
Most companies are content either doing things the same way all the time or jumping on an industry bandwagon because it’s the latest trend. IFC is continually pushing the boundaries of development & pioneering new ways of making sure the customer gets exactly what they want.

For aspiring professionals interested in a career in the supply chain industry, what advice would you give them to kickstart their journey?
Really invest in & take note of changing technologies and also find a mentor who wants you to be the best you can be.

What are your hobbies or favourite interests that you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
Anyone with a child involved in high level sport will know that your hobbies & interests quickly become non existent lol but at the end of the day I’m a romantic so you can’t beat the old-fashioned walk on the beach!

Describe your life’s motto in a few words!
Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.
