Employee Interview – Pauline
Pauline Mieu - Cartage Operation
Tell us about your role with IFC and how long you have been with the business.
I started with IFC as a Custom Compiler in 2015, briefly left the company, and then returned in 2019 for the opportunity to work in the Operations department before moving to the Cartage team.
What do you enjoy most about working at IFC?
IFC gives opportunities to staff who want to take on new challenges, learn new skills and improve themselves within the industry.
What drew you to work in the supply chain industry?
By chance when I was talking to a friend who works in accounts for a forwarding company. Prior to the forwarding industry, I worked in rental property management and banking.
Tell us a little about your background and experience.
I started as a registration clerk in a small forwarding company with a team of 4 members. From there, I learned the basics of the freight forwarding industry. Within the company, I had the opportunity to assist my customs broker in compiling documents for customs clearance. It was at that point that I gained interest in the industry. I then completed the CBFCA Customs Brokers Course and formally started my career as a compiler, moving to operations and now in cartage.
What are the biggest challenges and opportunities you’ve encountered in your experience working in the industry?
There are constant disruptions to the port terminal that are out of our control, such as strikes and protests.
How do you think IFC differentiates from competitors?
Opportunity for growth and flexibility.
For aspiring professionals interested in a career in the supply chain industry, what advice would you give them to kickstart their journey?
Ask questions. Be open minded and have the willingness to learn and accept challenges.
What hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
Spending time with family.
Describe your life’s motto in a few words!
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
