Warehousing & Logistics
Privacy Policy – General
IFC Global Logistics and
IFC Warehousing & Logistics (IFC GL) has adopted and is bound by the
National Privacy Principles set out in Schedule 3 of the Australian
Privacy Act 1988 (the Act). This document sets out IFC GL’s
Privacy Policy effective December 2001.
1 Collection of Personal
Information
IFC GL will not collect
personal information unless it is necessary for one or more of its
functions. If it is to be collected, it will be by lawful and fair
means and not in an unreasonable or intrusive way. When information
is collected, IFC GL will inform the person who we are and who the
Privacy Officer is within IFC GL. We will inform them of the reasons
we are collecting the information, and if IFC GL passes information
on to others. If the information is collected as a requirement of a
law then this must be passed on; and if incorrect, whether there are any consequences; or
if only part of the information is supplied. If
reasonable and practical, the personal information must be collected
only from that individual. If collected from someone else, IFC GL
Privacy Officer will make the individual aware of the matter.
2 Use and Disclosure
IFC GL will not use or
disclose personal information about an individual for a purpose
other than the primary purpose for which it was collected, unless it
falls into the areas address by National Privacy Principle 2. IFC
GL’s Privacy Officer must be consulted about all use of personal
information.
3 Data Quality
IFC GL will take all
reasonable steps to make sure that the personal information it
collects, uses or discloses is accurate, complete and up-to-date.
4 Data Security
IFC GL will protect the
personal information it holds from misuse and loss and from
unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. IFC GL will destroy
or permanently de-identify information if it is no longer needed for
any purpose for which the information may be used or disclosed under
National Privacy Principle 2.
5 Openness
IFC GL has prepared this
policy, and maintains documented procedures, for the management of
personal information. These policies and procedures are available to
anyone who asks for them. When requested IFC GL will summarise what
sort of information it holds, for what purposes and how it collects,
holds, uses and discloses the information.
6 Access and Correction
IFC GL will provide access
to personal information it holds on written request to the IFC GL
Privacy Officer. The application to access the information will be
subject to the exception set out in National Privacy Principle 6. If
access is sought for purpose of determining accuracy of the
information and it is determined that the information is out-of-date
then IFC GL will take all reasonable steps to bring the information
up-to-date. If access is denied then IFC GL will provide a written
reason as to why it was denied.
7 Identifiers
IFC GL will not adopt as
its own identification of individuals' personal information that is
provided by another source, other than the exceptions in National
Privacy Principle 7.
8 Anonymity
Due to the nature of our
business and the constraints placed on us by the Customs Act and
other related statutory requirements, we must always establish the
identity of our customers. Therefore, it is unlawful for us to give
a customer the option of not identifying themselves
9 Transborder Data Flows
IFC GL can, if required,
transfer personal information to a foreign country only if we are of
the reasonable opinion that the recipient of the information has a
privacy system that either mirrors or exceeds Australia’s National
Privacy Principles or meets the exceptions in National Privacy
Principle 9.
10 Sensitive Information
From Time to time IFC GL
may collect or receive information or an opinion about a person’s
origin, beliefs, memberships, sexual preferences, criminal record or
health. This type of information is known as sensitive information.
IFC GL takes greater precautions when protecting sensitive
information in its control. This information will not be used or
disclosed for a purpose other than the purpose for which it was
collected without the consent of the person to whom it relates. It
may be disclosed without consent should the information be requested
by the police or where required by law.
